ConEd Rainey to Corona

Queens, NY

Project Overview

MFS Construction, LLC (MFS) was contracted by POWER Engineers, Inc. to provide geotechnical drilling services in support of the Consolidated Edison, Inc. Company of NY (ConEd) Rainey to Corona Project.

Queens, NY

Project Details

The project consists of a new 138 kV underground transmission line to be installed between the existing Rainey and Corona #2 Substations predominantly along the public right-of-way (ROW) of various New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) roadways in the borough of Queens, New York.

MFS’ drilling team performed borings along the proposed underground transmission line alignment. The geotechnical investigation consisted of a total of 33 borings along the utility ROW from 15 to 30 feet below grade in support of trenched installations and vaults.

Prior to mobilization, MFS contracted, managed and coordinated all NYCDOT permits and maintenance and protection of traffic services required for the investigation. Prior to drilling each boring location, MFS hand excavated each boring location using a hand auger and post hole digger in tandem with a non-conductive probe rod to a depth of five (5) feet below grade to identify any unknown utilities. All test borings were advanced using the mud rotary drilling technique. Samples were obtained with a 2-inch O.D. split spoon continuously in the upper 15 feet and at five (5) foot intervals thereafter in accordance with ASTM D1586 during the investigation.
